Category:Audio Files
Popularity: (Very common)

Standard Midi File following the Musical Instrument Digital Interface specification which describes the protocols and connectors used for communication between computers and musical instruments. The protocol was standardized during the early ‘80s and embraced by users and manufactures everywhere due to its great playback time/file size ratio.

MID files contain data describing the notes played, their volume, length etc. Other note altering effects such as vibrato or pitch are also stored. Besides audio data, MID files can also contain control information for applications and devices. It’s safe to say that, for the most part, MID files store music characteristics, not music data.

As an asynchronous format, MID files use 8-bit serial transmission and a data rate of 31.25 Kbs.
