PPTX files are presentations created with Microsoft PowerPoint versions 2007 and above. PowerPoint was released by Microsoft in 1990 and is currently the most popular application for developing presentations and for putting together commercial and non-commercial slideshows.

PowerPoint presentations are made of individual pages also known as “slides” which can contain text, videos, pictures, music, sound effects, charts and other graphic objects. All elements can be arranged freely within each page.

The PPTX Open XML file format was developed by Microsoft to replace the older PPT format. PPTX files save all data in a compressed ZIP archive which contains three folders with RELS, XML and media files. All files can be extracted individually by changing the extension from PPTX to ZIP and opening the document with any decompression utility.

Unlike PowerPoint slideshows, finished PowerPoint presentations are fully editable. They can be opened and edited with PowerPoint or simply showcased with PowerPoint Viewer.
